01 / Course Overview

Go beyond the screen.
Design the connection.

Interaction Design sits at the intersection of people, technology, systems and experience.

The Bachelor of Design (BDes) in Interaction Design (IxD) is a specialized, four-year programme that prepares you to build intuitive, meaningful, and ethical digital experiences.

Rooted in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and systems thinking, the studio-driven curriculum bridges human psychology with emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Augmented Reality (AR). Students learn to orchestrate dynamic interactions across mobile, web, spatial computing and physical environments.

You graduate not just as a skilled technologist, but as an empathetic creator ready to lead responsible and scalable digital ecosystems.
Go beyond the screen

Design the way humans and technology connect across interfaces, products, services and emerging environments.

03 / Admissions

Bring your curiosity.
We'll build from there.

The existing admission requirements and selection process remain in place.

01 / ELIGIBILITY

Who can apply?

A student who has passed 10+2 examination (level 4.0) and obtained at least 45% marks (40% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the qualifying examination.

OR

Passed D.Voc. Stream in the same or allied sector.

02 / SELECTION

How are students selected?

The applicant has to appear and clear the JET Exam, which includes:

  1. Portfolio Review
  2. Personal Interview
ADMISSION NOTE

UCEED + JET

Candidates have to secure valid ranks in UCEED for the BDes programme and can directly attend the Portfolio Review and Personal Interview conducted by the School of Design, Media and Creative Arts (SDMCA).

If not, they have to undertake the JET Exam conducted by the institute followed by a Portfolio Review and Personal Interview to qualify for the Design programme.

04 / Curriculum

Eight semesters.
One evolving practice.

From design foundations and human-centred mechanics to systems thinking, emerging technologies, professional practice and independent research.

01 / Design Foundations and Visual LiteracyFirst Year+

Building your creative vocabulary.
Before designing complex systems, you must master the fundamentals. Your first year immerses you in the syntax of visual communication—typography, spatial composition, color theory, and rapid prototyping. You will internalize design thinking methodologies, developing the cognitive flexibility to deconstruct problems and understand interaction as a bridge connecting intent, meaning, and human perception.

Semester 1Building your creative vocabulary.

  • Seeing and Observing
  • Thinking and Making
  • Rhetoric and Composition 1
  • Mind Management and Human Values I

Semester 2Building your creative vocabulary.

  • Story and Expression
  • Systems and Context
  • Rhetoric and Composition 2
  • Mind Management and Human Values II
02 / Human-Centered Mechanics and Interface ArchitectureSecond Year+

Understanding the user and building digital spaces.
Year two dives into the core of interaction design. You will develop deep empathy and qualitative research skills to uncover genuine user needs. By bridging psychological principles like cognitive load and behavioral patterns with the structural organization of information, you will learn to craft highly functional, intuitive, and accessible digital interfaces.

Semester 3Understanding the user and spaces.

  • UX Research Methods
  • Typography 1
  • UI Design
  • Studio 3: HCI
  • Digital Tools and Techniques
  • Environmental Studies

Semester 4Understanding the user and spaces.

  • Cognitive Ergonomics
  • Information Architecture and UX writing
  • UX Design Principles
  • Studio 4: Mobile and Web Interface Design
  • User Behavior
  • Indian Constitution
03 / Systems, Complexity and Emerging EcosystemsThird Year+

Scaling your impact and embracing advanced tech.
Move from designing isolated screens to orchestrating comprehensive digital ecosystems. You will learn the mechanics of industrializing design systems for consistency across vast platforms. This year integrates intelligent and emerging technologies while addressing the ethical, socio-technical, and cultural impacts of your work.

Semester 5Scaling impact and advanced tech.

  • Design Systems and Components
  • Data Visualisation and Infographics
  • Responsible and Inclusive Design
  • Studio Elective: Interactive Product Design
  • Studio Elective: AI and Adaptive Interface Design
  • Coding for UX

Semester 6Scaling impact and advanced tech.

  • UX Audit
  • Service Design
  • Systems Thinking
  • Portfolio Design
  • Studio Elective: Experience Design for Emerging Technologies
  • Studio Elective: Affective Design
  • Open Elective 1
04 / Synthesis, Research and Professional AutonomyFourth Year+

Transitioning from student to industry leader.
Your final year focuses on professional mastery. Through immersive industry internships and applied research, you will tackle complex, ambiguous challenges. The programme culminates in a rigorous, independent Graduation Project, supported by forward-looking speculative design and a professional portfolio.

Semester 7Industry leadership and mastery.

  • Internship
